INTRODUCING OUR NEW RANGE // Screw-Tite® Multi-Purpose Woodscrews

Precision Ground Flat Stock

Ground Flat Stock / Gauge Plate

Our ground flat stock, also known as gauge plate, is of superb quality as it is manufactured from only UK and European raw materials. It has also been annealed to provide more excellent ductility and workability. The ground flat stock & gauge plate we supply are all manufactured from O1 Tool Steel.

O1 Tool steel is notable for its hardness, resistance to abrasion and deformation. Tool steels can also retain a cutting edge at very high temperatures, which is why they are often used to shape other materials through cutting, pressing, coining or extruding. Furthermore, their abrasion resistance lends to their use in the production of injection moulds.

O1 tool steel is the most popular non-shrinking, oil-hardening, cold work tool steel plate available worldwide. It’s extremely tough and suitable for multiple purposes. O1, often referred to as 01, belongs to the O steel grade family, which contains steel grades such as O1, O2, O6 and O7. Steels included in the O group are hardened to 800 °C, oil quenched, then tempered at <200 °C. O1 steel is suitable for knives, gauges, taps, jigs, measuring tools and many more.

What is Ground Flat Stock / Gauge Plate?

Ground Flat Stock / Gauge Plate is a precision ground, flat bar which is made from O1 tool steel. As it is precision ground, it is commonly used when precision & tight tolerances are needed.

How do you harden Ground Flat Stock / Gauge Plate?

As our Ground Flat Stock / Gauge Plate is supplied in an annealed condition, so its unlikely that heat treatment is needed, however, if it is necessary for your purpose, we recommend oil hardening your flat stock / gauge plate.
