Theo Paphitis Small Business Sunday #SBS Winner

Small Business Sunday, shortened to the hashtag #SBS on Twitter, was created by Theo Paphitis in October 2010.  He is renowned for his entrepreneurship, his straight talking, and his time as a Dragon on the UK TV series 'Dragons' Den'.  Theo Paphitis is Chairman of Ryman Stationery plus Boux Avenue Lingerie and Robert Dyas, as well as joint owner of Red Letter Days.

What you may not know is that he is extremely supportive of small UK businesses and this is how #SBS began.

To enter the competition, you have to tweet @TheoPaphitis on Twitter between 5.00pm and 7.30pm on a Sunday, tell him about your business and include the #SBS hashtag.  He then chooses 6 businesses which he then re-tweets to all of his followers which are in excess of 300,000.

To enter this competition does take perseverance.  GWR Fasteners Limited had been tweeting Theo Paphitis every single Sunday without fail for a whole 9 months.  Then, on Monday 26th November at 8.00pm, Theo retweeted our #SBS tweet to him (see below) to his (at the time) 300,000+ followers.  The response was immediate.  Within a few hours we gained several hundred more Twitter followers and the visits to our website tripled that evening.

We attended the #SBS Winners Event in Birmingham on the 28th November 2013 where we met with Theo Paphitis, all the fellow winners of #SBS and the sponsors which include Ryman Stationery, RAC, DHL and Bartercard amongst others.

Jude, the company's Commercial Director, asked Theo a question during his Q&A session all about the banking industry.

It was an amazing event with a room full of like-minded people with the full support of Theo and the #SBS Sponsors.  We are absolutely thrilled and proud to be a part of the #SBS family.
